Mardi Himal Base Camp Trek in Nepal – Epic Annapurna Adventure with Stunning Himalayan Views

The Mardi Base Camp Trek’s direct route starts with a picturesque drive to Pokhara, then continues to the quaint village of Dhampus and the trailhead at Deurali. From there, you travel through thick rhododendron forests, which provide a striking introduction to the area due to their vibrant flora and traditional rural way of life.

The trail climbs through Forest Camp, a peaceful, inspirational location that gradually opens into wide ridgelines, signalling the change from charming village streets and verdant forests to high, sunny views.

The trek follows a clear ridgeline that provides expansive, panoramic views of the Annapurna range as it continues upward to High Camp and then onto the Mardi Himal Base Camp. The Mardi Himal ridge opens up here, offering a number of breathtaking vantage points where the revered Machapuchare, also known as Fishtail Mountain, seems so near that it almost seems reachable. Travelling through locations like Dhampus, Deurali, Forest Camp, and High Camp offers a close-up and distinctive view of the area’s breathtaking natural beauty and rich cultural legacy.

The sunrise experience from High Camp (3,550 m) and Mardi Himal Base Camp (4,500 m), where you are rewarded with unmatched views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Machapuchare, is a highlight of the trip. The descent takes a different path via Jhinu Danda, guaranteeing a change of scenery and a new viewpoint on the area’s varied terrain.

Located just east of the trail to Annapurna Base Camp, the Mardi Himal Trek has its beauty to behold. Starting at Phedi near Pokhara, the trail gradually rises to the high hills and alpine forests. Natural viewpoints are abundant throughout the trail.
A smooth uphill will lead us to the high camp and beyond to the base of Mardi Himal.

Watch out for high ridges and narrow valleys. Up until Upper View Point, the trail is entirely uphill. As a result, walking some is difficult. Nonetheless, the trail is among Nepal’s most straightforward trekking routes. However, it is simpler to trail than in high-altitude locations. This trek is not difficult for someone who is physically fit. The trail can be challenging during the snowy season. Trekkers must therefore follow the guide’s instructions during this time of year. It can be challenging and confusing due to the abundance of crevasses. As a result, avoid hiking the trail alone. The trekking route is comparable to many trekking routes in Nepal’s Annapurna region. Pokhara is typically the first well-known destination.

Many people would rather spend their first night of trekking in an Australian camp. The location is atop Dhampus Village. Before entering the forest path leading to the high camp, the trail initially travels through terraced farmlands. The trail’s well-known viewpoints are Upper View Point, High Camp, and Low Camp. It is not necessary for hikers to return to Pokhara by the same path. When descending, they can also take the siding route. For trekkers who are moderately fit and want to experience the Himalayas without the length of longer expeditions, this week-long trek is perfect. The Mardi Himal Trek offers breathtaking scenery, cultural immersion, and an amazing adventure through Nepal’s unexplored paths, regardless of your level of experience.

Trekkers are gifted with picturesque scenery and views now and then. A great, memorable trek along with photographic scenery of cultural, natural, and stunning views of the Himalayas. Witness the best of Mardi Himal with Himalaya Adventure Sanctuary.

What type of fitness level & preparation one would need for this trek?

The Mardi Himal Trek is suitable for most people with a moderate level of fitness, and no prior trekking experience is required. It is considered a relatively accessible Himalayan trek, making it ideal for beginners as well as experienced hikers looking for a shorter adventure in the Annapurna region.

To prepare for the trek, it is recommended to engage in light physical conditioning such as running, swimming, cycling, or regular hiking in the weeks leading up to your trip. Building basic stamina and leg strength will help you enjoy the journey more comfortably.

If you have any pre-existing medical conditions, it is strongly advised to consult your doctor before joining the trek to ensure you are fit for high-altitude walking.

During the trek, it is normal to experience some level of fatigue or mild discomfort, especially as you gain altitude. This is part of the natural acclimatisation process, and most trekkers adapt after a short period while continuing at a steady pace.

With proper preparation and a positive mindset, the Mardi Himal Trek offers a rewarding and manageable Himalayan experience.

Will somebody come to pick me up from the airport upon my arrival ?

Yes, our representative will be there displaying your name outside the arrival terminal, and then you will be transferred to your hotel overnight.

What sort of accommodation can I expect in Kathmandu, Pokhara, and trekking ?

We use standard rooms at 2-star Category hotels in Kathmandu and Pokhara including breakfast Along the trekking routes, teahouses/lodges generally provide basic clean facilities with a mattress and a quilt or blanket. We recommend you have sleeping bags; it is a good idea to always have your sleeping equipment. The lodges on trekking routes usually provide single and double rooms or, occasionally, dormitory style. At times when possible, dining will be around a bonfire. In teahouses, food will be prepared in the kitchen, which you should not enter without permission. The toilet in teahouses provides essential and basic facilities and is always outside the room.

Are the guesthouses heated ?

The guesthouse does not facilitate a heater or air conditioner. However, as it gets colder above 3,500 m, they do have the facility of heating the dining area by providing kerosene or a metal heater. USD 1 to USD 3 per person would be applicable to use this service, and this is payable directly to the guesthouse.

Where do we go to the toilet along the trail ?

Wherever possible, we utilise the toilet facilities provided by the tea houses/lodges on the trail. However, in case of emergency, trekkers are recommended to find a private, scenic spot!

What are the Toilet facilities in the tea house/guesthouse ?

Most of the tea houses do have western-style flushing toilets; however, in tea houses at higher elevations, you could find squat toilets made of either a ceramic basin on the ground or a few planks precariously positioned over a hole in the ground which is always outside.

What is the best season for this trekking ?

Our trekking season extends from mid-September to May. From early September the monsoonal rains decrease. From the end of September through to December, the weather is usually stable with mild to warm days and cold nights. February, March, April, May, October, November, and December are the best times to do the Mardi Himal trek. Please follow the suggestion of our guide on the trek.

Is water provided and is there water for drink available at higher altitudes? Is it filtered/boiled ?

Bottled water is easily available at the lodges and tea houses, so you can buy bottled water at the cost of USD 1 up to USD 3. You can also drink the normal tap or spring water if you bring the purifying aid with you.

Is there a possibility of getting separate rooms for the trip? If so how much extra will this cost ?

Normally the lodges have twin-sharing and dormitory-styled rooms. The lodges will provide a private room for one person when available. In Kathmandu, USD 45 per room per night would be added as a single supplement fee. The single supplements are always guaranteed in Kathmandu but not in the mountains, especially during the peak time.

Is the food in the mountain prepared to international standards in terms of safety ?

Yes, the food is very safe during the trekking, but we recommend you eat vegetarian and local food.
