Explore the Landmarks of Phnom Penh: A Journey Through History
Embark on a profound journey through the historical landmarks of Phnom Penh, the capital city of Cambodia, to uncover the harrowing realities of the Khmer Rouge regime. The Killing Fields and Tuol Sleng Prison (S-21) are deeply emotional sites for all visitors.
Your journey begins with a pickup from the lobby of your hotel. We will travel approximately 15 kilometers southwest of Phnom Penh to Choeung Ek, a site that was once an orchard and a Chinese cemetery before 1975. During the Khmer Rouge regime, it became one of the infamous Killing Fields, where over 17,000 individuals were brutally executed after enduring torture and deprivation at Tuol Sleng Prison. Today, Choeung Ek stands as a solemn memorial, featuring mass graves and a stupa housing thousands of skulls.
Following this, we return to Phnom Penh to visit the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S-21). Once a high school, it was transformed into a high-security prison under Pol Pot’s rule, where approximately 20,000 individuals were detained and tortured. Now a museum, it serves as a stark reminder of the past and offers visitors a chance to reflect on this dark chapter in history.
The tour concludes with a return to your hotel.
