In the late 1940s, Langa was one of the first townships to be established for black South Africans. The Apartheid government attempted to control the township by limiting its growth and restricting residents’ movement. However, Langa residents fought back against these restrictions and made the township a center of resistance to Apartheid.
There are many popular attractions in Langa, such as the Langa Quarter, which is a lively market where you can find traditional African crafts and foods. The township is also home to a number of museums and monuments, which offer insight into the culture and history of the area
