3-Day Berber Villages Trek – High Atlas Cultural Experience

Day 1:

Imlil (1,740m) → Amsakrou via Tizi n’Tamatert (2,279m)

Your trek begins in Imlil, the gateway to the Toubkal region. The trail climbs gradually through juniper and pine forests to the panoramic Tizi n’Tamatert pass (2,279m), with stunning views over the Imnan and Imlil valleys. After a traditional Berber lunch in Tinghron village, continue through terraced fields and stone hamlets until reaching Amsakrou, where you’ll spend the night in a family-run guesthouse.

Highlights: sweeping views from Tizi n’Tamatert, authentic Berber lunch, overnight stay in a mountain village.
Walking time: 5–6 hours

Day 2 :

Amsakrou → Tizzian via Tizi n’Ougrsioual (2,000m) & Tizi Oudid (2,200m)

After breakfast, descend to the valley floor before climbing steadily to Tizi n’Ougrsioual, a beautiful mountain pass overlooking the Imlil and Azzaden valleys. Pass through Aguersioual village, then ascend to Tizi Oudid (2,200m), where you’ll enjoy lunch in the village of Matat, surrounded by walnut groves. The day ends with a gentle descent into Tizzian, a tranquil Berber village in the Azzaden Valley. Overnight in a local guesthouse.

Walking time: 6–7 hours

Day 3 :

Tizzian → Imlil via Tizi Oussem & Tizi Mzik (2,489m)

Begin with a steady climb through forests and shepherd paths toward Tizi Oussem, a charming hillside village where lunch is served on a terrace with panoramic views. Continue climbing to the trek’s highest point, Tizi Mzik (2,489m). From here, enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding valleys and the Toubkal range before descending back to Imlil, completing your circular trek.

Highlights: remote Berber villages, the highest pass of the trek, stunning valley views.
Walking time: 6–7 hours

Highly recommended

Very doable even if you’re not super experienced, but be ready for some uphill sections, especially on Day 2. The views from the passes were totally worth it. Overall, a beautiful experience I’ll never forget. Highly recommended for anyone wanting real adventure and authentic Berber hospitality!

Incredibly well-organized
