Day Trip to Selous Game Reserve
Selous Game Reserve is an expansive area of protected wilderness that has remained largely untouched for thousands of years. Explore this pristine park on a day trip starting from Zanzibar or Dar es Salaam.
The Selous is the largest game reserve in Tanzania and one of the most sought-after game viewing areas in Africa. Covering approximately 54,600 km² (21,081 sq. miles)—almost 6% of Tanzania’s land area—it is one of the largest protected wetland wilderness areas in Africa. Located in the south of Tanzania, the Selous is four times the size of Serengeti National Park.
In fact, the Selous Game Reserve is roughly the size of Switzerland. A large portion of the reserve is drained by the Rufiji River, creating a unique and diverse ecosystem. The reserve is home to over 2,000 plant species, more than 430 bird species, and 60 species of mammals. Wildlife sightings include iconic African species such as lions, leopards, elephants, buffalo, hippos, and crocodiles.
